I have previously reflected on ISTE teaching standards; however, since this school year was my first year as a department chair, I selected the coaching standards for this reflection assignment. I will summarize my reflections in this post, but feel free to click the box below to see the full rating scale.

Self-Rating Reflection Summary
Areas of Comfort
My two areas of comfort would be with ISTE Coaching Standards 4.1: Change Agent and 4.2: Connected Learner. One thing I know to be true about myself is that I am an agent for change. I have consistently collaborated with leadership teams at various schools to improve our use of technology and provide support to enhance my colleagues’ skills. This ensures equitable use of digital learning tools to meet our students’ needs. Additionally, I am always seeking ways to improve my own skills through coursework, professional development, and self-discovery. As I am new to my role as department chair, I have sought ways to improve my coaching techniques, particularly in supporting teachers who educate students fully online.
Examples of Application
This graduate program has been very applicable to my current position as an online instructor and department chair in my school district’s program. Since our program is new and developing, I have opportunities to directly apply what I have learned in this program and to provide professional development for my colleagues in the program.
As a connected learner, I regularly apply standard 4.2.b. Actively participate in professional learning networks to enhance coaching practice and keep current with emerging technology and innovations in pedagogy and the learning sciences. This past school year I have provide local and statewide professional development on how to effectively use Desmos and ChatGPT. As a collaborator, I also regularly apply standard 4.3.d. Personalize support for educators by planning and modeling the effective use of technology to improve student learning. I often work directly with teachers to help plan lessons and analyze data for responsive instruction.
Challenges
Out of all of the ISTE Coaching Standards, I feel the most challenging one for me is standard 4.7: Digital Citizen Advocate. I feel that I do really well advocating within our program but have not taken that advocacy outside of our program into the community and beyond.
Areas of Focus
I feel that the two standards that I would like to focus on that would directly support my program and improve my knowledge and skills would be ISTE Coaching Standards 4.5: Professional Learning Facilitator and 4.6: Data-Driven Decision-Maker. Our school improvement plan will be focusing on standard 4.6 next year and I would also like to increase my capacity to address standard 4.5.c. Evaluate impact of professional learning and continually make improvements in order to meet schoolwide vision for using technology for high-impact teaching and learning.
